Optimal humidity with plants

After a long workday, it’s pretty common to have a dry throat, tired eyes, or a headache.

Thanks to the stuffy and musty air in our offices, most of us can’t wait to go home at the end of the day. As an employer, you’d probably rather have an environment that doesn’t make people wish they could leave. Plants can help with that.

Thanks to research we know that humidity – the most important way to avoid tired eyes and stuffy spaces – is 5% higher in a room with plants than in one without. You can get there with just one 12cm pot plant per 2m2. During the winter, the humidity improves even more, about 17%, because the air outside is much drier. Even offices where climate control was already pretty optimal, an improvement of 5% was measured.

Of course, you can improve humidity through technology as well, but plants are much more effective and cheaper. According to the study, businesses can save €11,50 on energy bills in the winter per day in a 2180m3 space. That’s roughly €0,53m per m3.
